Oregon Grape grows naturally around the Olympic Peninsula. This summer I gathered some and made jam, using plenty of sugar and no pectin. I cooked it too long and the result was more like fruit leather than jam, but the flavor was excellent. I'll try again next year for sure!

When it's time to "reset", I like to take time to listen to the rhythm of the waves, and watch the sun set over the ocean. Do you have a special place? I'd love to hear about it...drop me a line at Alisa@OlympicFineArt.com.

We were driving up a dirt road near the Queets River and went around a corner, and suddenly we saw a herd of elk coming out of the woods and onto the road! This majestic (and enormous) buck stepped out, turned, and stood there watching us while the herd crossed behind him. After the herd crossed, the buck turned and followed. There was absolutely no question in our minds about who had the right of way!

This whimsical painting features an imaginative scene where a rabbit, a deer, and a marmot gather around a table for an exciting game of poker. Each animal exudes its own personality - the rabbit appears to be barely holding on to his poker face, while the deer is quite relaxed, and the marmot seems genuinely concerned. The playful interaction between these woodland creatures brings a sense of fun and camaraderie. The New Dungeness Lighthouse was first lit in 1857 and was the second lighthouse established in the Washington territory. The 5-mile hike to lighthouse is worth it, but check the tide table first. If you don't time it right, you may not have a beach to walk back on!
